Eco- Friendly Bristol 2012
Monday, 12 December 2011 21:03
Ben's Reck Yard invite you to make your projects more eco-friendly for 2012!
Reclaimed and recycled materials are not the same. Reclaimed materials are any materials that are re-used as they are or only slightly modified. Recycling materials is more time consuming and less eco-friendly than reclaimation.
The type of materials that can be reclaimed are items such as radiators, wooden beams, lighting, cladding, glass, doors, flooring, steel columns, window frames, bathroom fixtures, bricks, tiles, staircases, furniture and much more.
As the Code for Sustainable Homes rates reclaimed bricks, timber, clay roof tiles and bricks as A+ in environmental terms, building using these materials can gain a higher sustainability rating. WRAP says that using one tonne of reclaimed steel saves 1.8 tonnes of CO2 in comparison to using new steel. Timber studwork saves 900kg and 915kg is saved when using reclaimed clay roof tiles. So using reclaimed materials means that you are saving carbon emissions as well.
Here at Bens Reck Yard, we are happy to help you source an eco-friendly, sustainable solution to your next or current project.
